Take your social network offline.

Thank You and Goodbye

We started Moka as a platform for people who were tired of or not engaged in Social Media, and who wanted none of the social media trappings, but felt left out of the loop otherwise.

We wanted an ability for people to still engage with their friends and colleagues but to do so in real life. We acknowledged that the world has changed and rarely would a group of friends organise by email or phone anymore - other platforms, mainly social media platforms, have taken over this role. But we also knew that some people simply didn’t want to be on Social Media; they remained on it because otherwise they’d be left out and excluded. Social Media felt like a necessary evil for the sake of keeping in touch with family and friends.

When we originally designed this platform we have envisaged a world where meeting and interacting with people in person could be once more the primary focus of friendships and socialisation. We wanted a stripped-down platform which delivered exactly that, would connect you to your friends, but rather than replacing face-to-face interaction, it would help you foster it in the modern times.

Little did we knew that our goals would be so subverted by a global pandemic.

These days the idea of a platform that channels all interaction to in-person meetings and face-to-face contact seems tone deaf and somewhat fantastical. As such we no longer see Moka as a platform that would grow organically as we originally planned, and so it is with heavy hearts we have decided to close Moka from today, October 12, 2020 .

We’d like to thank you for being part of Moka and hope you’ve enjoyed your time with us. We’d also like to thank those who have helped us along the way, have shared their ideas and advice, and given us support when we needed it most. We hope our paths cross again in the future.

All the best and take care,

Tom & JJ
